Job Description

We are currently seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Optometric Assistant to join our team. As an Optometric Assistant, you will play a vital role in assisting our optometrists in providing comprehensive eye exams and delivering quality patient care.   1. Assist optometrists in providing comprehensive eye exams to patients.
  2. Maintain a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for patients, making them feel comfortable and at ease during their visit.
  3. Greet patients, answer phone calls, and schedule appointments.
  4. Collect and record patient information and medical history accurately.
  5. Prepare examination rooms and ensure they are clean and well-stocked with necessary supplies.
  6. Perform preliminary tests such as visual acuity, color vision, and depth perception.
  7. Instruct patients on the proper use and care of contact lenses.
  8. Assist with contact lens fittings and ordering.
  9. Educate patients on proper eye health and care, including contact lens hygiene, eyewear options, and potential eye conditions.
  10. Maintain and update patient records and ensure confidentiality.
  11. Handle insurance and billing processes accurately and efficiently.
  12. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality and coordinated patient care.
  13. Attend training and educational sessions to stay updated on the latest optometric techniques and technologies.
  14. Adhere to all safety and infection control protocols.
  15. Demonstrate excellent communication skills and provide exceptional customer service to patients.
  16. Work collaboratively with team members to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
  17. Maintain a professional and positive attitude at all times.
  18. Take initiative and assist with any other duties or tasks as assigned.

Job Qualifications
  • High School Diploma Or Equivalent: A Minimum Educational Requirement For An Optometric Assistant Position At Henry Ford Health System Is A High School Diploma Or Equivalent. This Ensures That The Individual Has A Basic Understanding Of Concepts Such As Math, Science, And Communication Skills Necessary For The Job.

  • Previous Experience In A Healthcare Setting: Having Experience In A Healthcare Setting, Particularly In An Optometry Office, Is Highly Desirable For This Position. This Shows That The Candidate Is Familiar With The Daily Operations And Procedures Of An Optometric Office.

  • Knowledge Of Basic Eye Care And Terminology: Candidates Should Have A Basic Understanding Of Eye Care And Terminology Related To Optometry. This Includes Knowledge Of Common Eye Conditions, Glasses And Contact Lens Prescriptions, And Basic Eye Anatomy.

  • Excellent Customer Service Skills: As An Optometric Assistant, The Candidate Will Be Interacting With Patients On A Daily Basis. Therefore, Strong Customer Service Skills Are A Must. This Includes Being Friendly, Professional, And Able To Handle Difficult Situations With Patience And Empathy.

  • Ability To Multitask And Work In A Fast-Paced Environment: Working In An Optometry Office Can Be Fast-Paced And Requires The Ability To Multitask. Optometric Assistants Are Responsible For Handling Multiple Tasks At Once, Such As Scheduling Appointments, Assisting Patients, And Maintaining Records. Therefore, Candidates Should Be Able To Work Efficiently Under Pressure.
