- Perform a variety of complex laboratory tests and procedures in Microbiology to aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all tests performed and results obtained.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper functioning and accuracy of results.
- Follow established protocols and procedures for specimen handling, processing, and testing.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols to maintain a safe working environment.
- Collaborate with other members of the healthcare team to ensure timely and accurate test results.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any technical or equipment issues that may arise.
- Participate in quality control and quality assurance activities to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
- Stay updated on current laboratory practices, techniques, and technologies in the field of Microbiology.
- Mentor and train new laboratory staff and students.
- Communicate effectively with physicians and other healthcare professionals regarding test results and patient care.
- Provide excellent customer service to patients and their families.
- Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and order new supplies as needed.
- Follow all regulatory and accreditation requirements related to laboratory testing.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to HIPAA guidelines.
- Attend continuing education and training programs to enhance knowledge and skills.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the laboratory manager or supervisor.
Bachelor's Degree In Medical Laboratory Science Or Related Field: A Strong Foundation In Medical Laboratory Science Is Essential For This Position, And A Bachelor's Degree Provides The Necessary Knowledge And Skills.
Certification As A Medical Laboratory Scientist (Mls) Or Medical Technologist (Mt): This Certification Demonstrates A Candidate's Competency And Expertise In The Field Of Medical Laboratory Science, Specifically In Microbiology.
Experience In Microbiology Laboratory Techniques And Procedures: A Candidate Should Have Experience Working In A Microbiology Laboratory, Including Knowledge Of Aseptic Techniques, Culturing And Identifying Microorganisms, And Performing Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing.
Knowledge Of Laboratory Equipment And Technology: Medical Laboratory Scientists Must Be Proficient In Using Various Laboratory Equipment And Technology, Such As Microscopes, Automated Analyzers, And Laboratory Information Systems.
Strong Attention To Detail And Accuracy: A Medical Laboratory Scientist Must Have A Keen Eye For Detail And Be Able To Accurately Perform Tests And Record Results. Microbiology Testing Requires Precision To Ensure Accurate Diagnoses And Treatment Plans For Patients.
