- Prepare tissue samples for examination under a microscope, following established protocols and procedures.
- Embed, cut, stain, and mount tissue samples using various techniques and equipment.
- Ensure the accuracy and quality of all prepared samples, adhering to strict guidelines and regulations.
- Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and instruments, reporting any issues to the appropriate personnel.
- Perform routine and specialized histology tests, interpreting and reporting results accurately.
- Keep accurate records of all procedures, including patient information and test results.
- Collaborate with other team members, such as pathologists and laboratory technicians, to ensure efficient workflow and timely delivery of results.
- Adhere to strict safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Stay current with industry advancements and participate in continuing education to enhance knowledge and skills.
- Provide exceptional patient care by communicating with patients, answering questions, and addressing any concerns.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and participate in departmental meetings.
- Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures, including confidentiality and ethical standards.
- Provide guidance and training to new laboratory staff as needed.
- Maintain inventory of supplies and reagents, ordering and restocking as necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the laboratory manager or supervisor.
Bachelor's Degree In Histotechnology Or Related Field: A Histotechnologist At Henry Ford Health System Must Possess A Bachelor's Degree In Histotechnology Or A Related Field From An Accredited Institution.
Certification As A Histotechnologist (Htl) Or Histotechnician (Ht): The Candidate Must Have A Valid Certification As A Histotechnologist (Htl) Or Histotechnician (Ht) From A Recognized Certifying Agency Such As The American Society For Clinical Pathology (Ascp).
Minimum Of 2 Years Experience In Surgical Pathology: The Ideal Candidate Should Have A Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience Working In A Surgical Pathology Laboratory, Preferably In A Hospital Setting.
Extensive Knowledge Of Histological Techniques And Procedures: The Candidate Must Have A Thorough Understanding And Practical Experience In A Variety Of Histological Techniques And Procedures, Including Fixation, Embedding, Sectioning, And Staining.
Excellent Communication And Teamwork Skills: As A Histotechnologist At Henry Ford Health System, The Candidate Should Possess Strong Communication Skills And Be Able To Work Effectively In A Team Environment. This Includes Collaborating With Other Laboratory Staff, Pathologists, And Clinicians To Ensure Accurate And Timely Results.
