
Animal Technician

- Provide exceptional care for animal patients by following established protocols and procedures.
- Administer medications and treatments as directed by veterinarians.
- Monitor animal patients' health and report any changes or concerns to veterinarians.
- Perform routine and specialized procedures such as blood draws, radiographs, and dental cleanings.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of animal patients' medical history and treatments.
- Clean and maintain animal enclosures and equipment to ensure a safe and sanitary environment.
- Assist with surgical procedures and post-operative care for animal patients.
- Handle and restrain animals in a gentle and humane manner.
- Educate and communicate with pet owners about proper animal care and treatment.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and support staff.
- Continuously update knowledge and skills through ongoing training and education opportunities.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to ensure the well-being of animal patients and staff.
- Provide emotional support and comfort to animal patients and their owners.
- Represent the organization in a professional and compassionate manner.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all interactions with animal patients and their owners.
Minimum Education Requirements: A High School Diploma Or Equivalent Is Required For This Position. A Degree Or Certification In A Related Field Such As Animal Science, Veterinary Technology, Or Biology Is Preferred.
Experience With Animal Handling And Care: Candidates Should Have A Minimum Of 1-2 Years Of Experience Working With Animals In A Laboratory Or Clinical Setting. This Experience Should Demonstrate Proficiency In Handling, Restraining, And Caring For Various Animal Species.
Knowledge Of Animal Husbandry And Welfare: The Ideal Candidate Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Animal Welfare Principles And The Ability To Provide Proper Care And Enrichment For Laboratory Animals. Familiarity With Animal Husbandry Techniques And Protocols Is Also Necessary.
Attention To Detail And Record-Keeping Skills: Animal Technicians Are Responsible For Maintaining Accurate Records Of Animal Health, Care, And Research Procedures. Strong Attention To Detail And Organizational Skills Are Essential For This Role.
Ability To Work In A Team Environment: Animal Technicians At Henry Ford Health System Work Closely With Veterinarians, Researchers, And Other Animal Care Staff. Candidates Should Have Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills, And The Ability To Work Collaboratively In A Team Setting.
