
NICU Respiratory Therapist

- Provide specialized respiratory therapy care to newborns in the NICU, including oxygen therapy, mechanical ventilation, and airway management.
- Monitor and assess the respiratory status of patients, adjust treatments as needed, and communicate any changes to the healthcare team.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized treatment plans for each patient.
- Educate patients and their families on respiratory care techniques and equipment to ensure a safe and comfortable transition from hospital to home.
- Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of patient assessments, treatments, and progress.
- Adhere to infection control protocols and maintain a clean and safe environment for patients.
- Stay current on advancements and best practices in respiratory therapy for neonatal patients.
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide the best possible care to patients and their families.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute ideas for improving patient outcomes.
- Demonstrate compassion, empathy, and sensitivity towards patients and their families during what can be a stressful and emotional time.
- Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, including those related to patient privacy and confidentiality.
- Attend and actively participate in team meetings, trainings, and educational opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Maintain all required certifications and licenses.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or manager.
Degree In Respiratory Therapy: A Minimum Of An Associate's Degree In Respiratory Therapy Is Required For This Position. A Bachelor's Degree Is Preferred.
Licensure And Certification: Must Hold A Current State License And Be Certified By The National Board For Respiratory Care (Nbrc). Additional Certifications, Such As Neonatal/Pediatric Specialist (Nps) Or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (Nrp), Are Highly Desirable.
Nicu Experience: Previous Experience Working In A Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (Nicu) Is Required For This Role. Candidates With At Least 1-2 Years Of Nicu Experience Will Be Given Preference.
Knowledge Of Neonatal Respiratory Care: Must Have A Thorough Understanding Of Neonatal Respiratory Care, Including Ventilator Management, Surfactant Administration, And High-Frequency Ventilation.
Teamwork And Communication Skills: The Ability To Work Collaboratively With A Multidisciplinary Team And Strong Communication Skills Are Essential For This Role. Must Be Able To Communicate Effectively With Parents And Other Healthcare Providers.
