- Oversee the assortment and presentation of general merchandise products in our store, ensuring they align with our brand and meet the needs and preferences of our customers.
- Develop and implement strategies to drive sales and profitability in the general merchandise department, including setting sales goals, analyzing data, and making adjustments as needed.
- Lead and motivate a team of general merchandise employees, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure they are equipped to deliver exceptional customer service and meet performance targets.
- Monitor inventory levels and collaborate with the purchasing team to ensure adequate stock of in-demand products, while also minimizing excess inventory and reducing shrink.
- Stay updated on industry trends, customer preferences, and competitor offerings to make informed decisions on product selection, pricing, and promotions.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, such as marketing and operations, to develop and execute plans to promote and showcase general merchandise products in-store and online.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing general merchandise department to enhance the overall shopping experience for our customers.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations, regarding product safety, pricing, and labeling.
- Track and analyze sales data, customer feedback, and other relevant metrics to identify opportunities for improvement and make recommendations for action.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork, open communication, and a customer-centric mindset among the general merchandise team.
- Collaborate with vendors and negotiate pricing and terms to maximize profitability and maintain positive relationships.
- Monitor and manage the general merchandise department budget, making sound financial decisions to meet or exceed financial goals.
- Lead by example and uphold H-E-B's values of excellence, innovation, and service, while also promoting a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the team.
Extensive Experience In Retail Management: A General Merchandise Manager At H-E-B Should Have At Least 5-7 Years Of Experience In A Retail Management Role, Preferably In A Large Retail Chain.
Strong Leadership Skills: The Ideal Candidate Should Have Proven Experience In Managing And Motivating A Team, As Well As Delegating Tasks And Setting Goals To Achieve Results.
Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills: As A General Merchandise Manager, You Will Be Responsible For Liaising With Various Departments, Vendors, And Customers, So Effective Communication And Interpersonal Skills Are Essential.
