We are currently seeking a Senior Academic Advisor to join our team and support our students in achieving their academic goals. As a Senior Academic Advisor, you will have the opportunity to work closely with students, providing guidance and support throughout their academic journey. We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced individual who is passionate about higher education and has a strong commitment to helping students succeed. If you are a dedicated and knowledgeable academic advisor with exceptional communication and problem-solving skills, we would love to have you on our team at GWU.

  1. Provide academic guidance and support to students in order to help them achieve their academic goals.
  2. Work closely with students to develop personalized academic plans and strategies.
  3. Stay updated on university policies and procedures and communicate them effectively to students.
  4. Serve as a resource for students, addressing any questions or concerns they may have about their academic journey.
  5. Monitor students' progress and identify any potential academic issues, providing appropriate interventions and referrals.
  6. Collaborate with other academic advisors and university staff to ensure a comprehensive support system for students.
  7. Maintain accurate and organized records of student interactions and academic plans.
  8. Conduct regular check-ins with students to assess their academic progress and provide ongoing support.
  9. Assist students in navigating through academic challenges and provide referrals to academic resources when necessary.
  10. Stay updated on current trends and best practices in academic advising and higher education.
  11. Attend training and professional development opportunities to enhance advising skills.
  12. Assist with orientation and other events to welcome new students and provide academic advising services.
  13. Serve as a mentor and role model for junior academic advisors.
  14. Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop and implement academic support programs for students.
  15. Foster a positive and inclusive environment for students and promote diversity and cultural competence.

Job Qualifications
  • Master's Degree In Counseling, Education, Or A Related Field.

  • Minimum Of 5 Years Of Experience In Academic Advising, Preferably At A University Setting.

  • Strong Knowledge Of Gwu's Academic Programs, Policies, And Procedures.

  • Excellent Communication, Interpersonal, And Problem-Solving Skills.

  • Ability To Work Independently, Manage Multiple Tasks, And Collaborate With Faculty And Staff.
