  1. Develop, implement, and maintain export control policies and procedures in accordance with federal regulations and GWU guidelines.
  2. Provide guidance and support to faculty, staff, and students on export control regulations and compliance requirements.
  3. Conduct regular audits and assessments to ensure compliance with export control laws and regulations.
  4. Review and approve proposed research projects to identify potential export control issues and develop appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
  5. Collaborate with internal departments and external agencies to obtain necessary export licenses and approvals.
  6. Educate and train faculty, staff, and students on export control regulations and best practices.
  7. Monitor and track export control-related activities, including shipments and international collaborations.
  8. Investigate and report any potential violations of export control regulations.
  9. Keep up-to-date with changes in export control laws and regulations and communicate updates to relevant parties.
  10. Serve as the main point of contact for all export control inquiries and provide timely and accurate responses.
  11. Maintain accurate and organized records of export control activities and documentation.
  12. Participate in the development and implementation of security protocols to safeguard sensitive research information.
  13. Collaborate with the Office of Sponsored Projects to ensure compliance with export control regulations in sponsored research projects.
  14. Work closely with the Office of General Counsel to provide legal guidance on export control matters.
  15. Represent GWU in external meetings and conferences related to export control and research security.

Job Qualifications
  • Knowledge Of Export Control Regulations: The Candidate Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of Export Control Regulations, Including The International Traffic In Arms Regulations (Itar), Export Administration Regulations (Ear), And Office Of Foreign Assets Control (Ofac) Regulations.

  • Experience In Research Security: The Candidate Should Have Experience In Managing Research Security Programs, Including Safeguarding Sensitive Information, Controlling Access To Facilities, And Conducting Security Assessments.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: The Candidate Should Possess Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills To Effectively Interact With Faculty, Staff, And External Partners On Export Control And Research Security Matters.

  • Attention To Detail: The Candidate Should Have A High Level Of Attention To Detail To Ensure Compliance With Export Control Regulations, Maintain Accurate Records, And Conduct Thorough Security Assessments.

  • Familiarity With Higher Education Environment: The Candidate Should Have Previous Experience Working In A Higher Education Environment, Preferably In A Research-Intensive Institution, To Understand The Unique Challenges And Requirements Related To Export Control And Research Security In An Academic Setting.
