- Develop and implement comprehensive chemical safety policies and protocols in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of all laboratory facilities to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Train and educate students, faculty, and staff on proper handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials.
- Collaborate with various departments and stakeholders to develop emergency response plans and procedures in the event of a chemical spill or accident.
- Maintain and update the chemical inventory database, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records of all chemicals used on campus.
- Monitor and evaluate new chemicals and materials introduced on campus, conducting risk assessments and recommending appropriate safety measures.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for any chemical safety-related inquiries or incidents, providing timely and effective responses and resolutions.
- Stay current on industry trends and advancements in chemical safety, implementing new strategies and technologies to enhance safety protocols.
- Coordinate and oversee the proper disposal of chemical waste in compliance with environmental regulations.
- Collaborate with external agencies and organizations to stay up-to-date on local, state, and federal chemical safety regulations and ensure GWU's compliance.
- Supervise and mentor a team of chemical safety technicians, providing guidance and support to maintain a high level of safety on campus.
- Foster a culture of safety at GWU by promoting and encouraging safe practices and procedures among students, faculty, and staff.
Bachelor's Degree In Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Or A Related Field
Minimum Of 3 Years Of Experience In A Chemical Safety Role, Preferably In An Academic Or Research Setting
Strong Knowledge Of Federal, State, And Local Regulations Related To Chemical Safety And Hazardous Materials Handling
Experience Developing And Implementing Chemical Safety Policies, Procedures, And Training Programs
Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Effectively Train And Educate Faculty, Staff, And Students On Chemical Safety Practices.
