  1. Design and create specialized tools and equipment to support the manufacturing process of cutting-edge vehicles.
  2. Regularly maintain and repair existing tools and equipment to ensure they are functioning properly and efficiently.
  3. Collaborate with engineers and other team members to identify tooling needs and develop innovative solutions.
  4. Troubleshoot and problem-solve any issues that arise with tools and equipment, ensuring minimal disruption to the manufacturing process.
  5. Utilize precision measuring tools and techniques to ensure the accuracy and quality of all tooling.
  6. Follow all safety protocols and procedures when operating and maintaining tools and equipment.
  7. Keep detailed records of tooling maintenance and repairs, and make recommendations for improvements or replacements when necessary.
  8. Stay up-to-date on industry advancements and technological developments in order to continually improve and optimize tooling processes.
  9. Train and mentor junior team members on tooling techniques and procedures.
  10. Maintain a clean and organized work area to ensure a safe and productive work environment.

Job Qualifications
  • Experience And Knowledge In Manufacturing Processes: A Mechanical Journeyperson (Toolmaker) At General Motors Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Various Manufacturing Processes Such As Machining, Fabrication, And Assembly. This Includes Experience With Cnc Machines, Hand Tools, And Other Specialized Equipment.

  • Proficiency In Blueprint Reading And Interpretation: As A Toolmaker, It Is Essential To Be Able To Read And Interpret Engineering Drawings And Schematics Accurately. This Includes Understanding Geometric Dimensioning And Tolerancing (Gd&T) And Other Specifications.

  • Strong Problem-Solving Skills: General Motors Values Employees Who Can Think Critically And Find Solutions To Complex Problems. A Mechanical Journeyperson (Toolmaker) Should Possess Excellent Problem-Solving Skills, Be Able To Troubleshoot Equipment Issues, And Make Necessary Adjustments To Ensure Optimal Performance.

  • Knowledge Of Tool And Die Design: The Role Of A Toolmaker At General Motors Involves Designing And Building Tools, Dies, And Fixtures. This Requires A Thorough Understanding Of Tool And Die Design Principles, As Well As Experience With Cad/Cam Software.

  • Safety Awareness And Adherence To Protocols: Safety Is A Top Priority At General Motors, And A Mechanical Journeyperson (Toolmaker) Must Demonstrate A Strong Commitment To Following Safety Protocols And Procedures.
