Bachelor's Degree In Electrical Or Mechanical Engineering: A Strong Foundation In Engineering Principles Is Essential For A Controls Engineer At General Motors. A Degree In Either Electrical Or Mechanical Engineering Provides The Necessary Knowledge And Skills To Design And Troubleshoot Complex Control Systems.
Experience With Plc Programming: General Motors Relies Heavily On Programmable Logic Controllers (Plcs) For Controlling Various Manufacturing Processes. A Controls Engineer Should Have Experience With Plc Programming And Be Familiar With Common Programming Languages Such As Ladder Logic, Structured Text, And Function Block Diagram.
Knowledge Of Automotive Systems: As A Manufacturer Of Automobiles, General Motors Requires Its Controls Engineers To Have A Deep Understanding Of Automotive Systems. This Includes Familiarity With Engine Control, Powertrain Control, Vehicle Dynamics, And Other Critical Systems.
