Job Description

Welcome to the Florida State University Museum, where we strive to preserve and showcase the rich history and cultural heritage of our community. We are currently seeking highly organized and detail-oriented individuals to join our team as Museum Registration Inventory Assistants. This position plays a crucial role in maintaining the museum's inventory and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our collections. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about preserving and protecting our artifacts and have a strong attention to detail.   1. Maintain and update museum inventory records, including accession numbers, location, and condition of artifacts.
  2. Conduct regular inventory checks to ensure accuracy and completeness of collections.
  3. Assist with the movement and handling of artifacts, following proper preservation and handling protocols.
  4. Perform data entry and record keeping tasks related to the museum's collections.
  5. Collaborate with curatorial and conservation staff to coordinate artifact loans and transfers.
  6. Conduct research on artifacts and assist with cataloging and labeling.
  7. Monitor and report any changes in artifact condition and make recommendations for preservation and conservation measures.
  8. Assist with the installation and deinstallation of exhibitions, including handling and packing of artifacts.
  9. Communicate with donors, lenders, and other external parties regarding collection information and updates.
  10. Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge of collections management techniques and procedures.
  11. Maintain a clean and organized workspace and ensure proper storage and handling of all artifacts.
  12. Provide excellent customer service to museum visitors by answering questions, providing information, and directing them to appropriate resources.
  13. Assist with special projects and events, such as inventory audits and collection tours.
  14. Adhere to all museum policies and procedures, as well as local, state, and federal laws and regulations related to collections management.
  15. Continuously evaluate and suggest improvements to the inventory and collections management processes to ensure efficiency and accuracy.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Museum Studies, Art History, History, Or Related Field.

  • Previous Experience Working With Collections Management Databases And Inventory Software.

  • Knowledge Of Museum Registration And Inventory Best Practices And Standards.

  • Strong Organizational And Time Management Skills, With The Ability To Handle Multiple Projects Simultaneously.

  • Excellent Attention To Detail And Ability To Accurately Record And Document Inventory Data.
