Job Description

  1. Oversee the management and maintenance of the library's collections, including print and electronic resources.
  2. Utilize knowledge of collection development principles and trends to make informed decisions on the acquisition and deselection of materials.
  3. Collaborate with library staff and faculty to identify and acquire relevant and diverse materials that support the needs of the university community.
  4. Develop and implement collection policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective management of library collections.
  5. Monitor budget allocations and expenditures to ensure responsible and strategic spending on collection resources.
  6. Conduct regular assessments and analysis of collection usage and make recommendations for improvements or adjustments.
  7. Stay current on emerging technologies and trends in library science and collection management to inform decisions and improve services.
  8. Provide reference and research assistance to library users, utilizing knowledge of the collections to connect users with appropriate resources.
  9. Train and supervise staff in collection management tasks, such as cataloging and processing new materials.
  10. Collaborate with other librarians and library departments to promote and market collections and services to the university community.
  11. Serve as a liaison to academic departments and participate in collection development meetings and initiatives.
  12. Contribute to library-wide initiatives and projects, such as digitization efforts or preservation activities.
  13. Maintain accurate records and statistics related to collection management activities.
  14. Serve on library and university committees and participate in professional development opportunities to stay current in the field.
  15. Foster a positive and inclusive work environment that values diversity and promotes teamwork and collaboration.

Job Qualifications
  • Master's Degree In Library Science (Mls) Or Information Science (Mlis) From An Ala-Accredited Institution.

  • Minimum Of 2-3 Years Of Experience In Collection Management, Acquisitions, And/Or Cataloging In An Academic Library Setting.

  • Knowledge Of Current Trends And Best Practices In Collection Development, Including Familiarity With Emerging Digital Formats And Open Access Resources.

  • Familiarity With Library Management Systems And Electronic Resource Management Tools, Such As Alma And Oclc.

  • Strong Organizational, Analytical, And Problem-Solving Skills, With Attention To Detail And Ability To Manage Multiple Projects Simultaneously.
