  1. Conduct thorough legal reviews and analysis of complex real estate transactions to determine potential risks and provide underwriting support.
  2. Advise and guide internal teams and external clients on legal requirements and potential issues related to real estate transactions.
  3. Collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to develop creative solutions and strategies for complex real estate transactions.
  4. Communicate effectively with all parties involved in the transaction, including clients, attorneys, and other professionals.
  5. Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies related to real estate transactions.
  6. Conduct research and stay up-to-date on legal developments and trends in the real estate industry.
  7. Provide training and support to junior underwriters and other team members on legal and underwriting matters.
  8. Review and draft legal documents, including contracts, agreements, and policies, to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  9. Maintain accurate and organized records and documentation related to real estate transactions.
  10. Proactively identify potential risks and make recommendations for risk mitigation strategies.
  11. Participate in meetings and discussions to provide legal insights and expertise on real estate transactions.
  12. Stay informed about market trends and changes in the real estate industry to provide valuable insights and recommendations to the company.
  13. Represent the company in legal proceedings related to real estate transactions, if necessary.
  14. Collaborate with other departments and teams to promote a culture of compliance and risk management within the company.

Job Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (J.d.) Degree: A Strong Educational Background In Law Is Essential For An Underwriting Counsel, As This Role Requires In-Depth Knowledge Of Legal Principles And Regulations Related To Insurance And Real Estate.

  • Admittance To The Bar: Underwriting Counsel Must Be Licensed To Practice Law In The State(S) Where They Will Be Working, As They Will Be Responsible For Providing Legal Advice And Making Underwriting Decisions.

  • Prior Experience In Underwriting: Underwriting Counsel Must Have Previous Experience In Underwriting, Preferably In The Real Estate Or Insurance Industry. This Experience Will Enable Them To Effectively Evaluate Risk And Make Sound Underwriting Decisions.

  • Strong Analytical And Problem-Solving Skills: Underwriting Counsel Must Have Excellent Analytical Skills To Review Complex Legal Documents And Identify Potential Issues. They Must Also Possess Strong Problem-Solving Skills To Find Solutions That Balance Risk And Business Objectives.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills: As A Hybrid Role, Underwriting Counsel Must Be Able To Effectively Communicate And Collaborate With Both Legal And Business Professionals. Strong Interpersonal Skills Are Also Important For Building And Maintaining Relationships With Clients And Colleagues.
