- Develop and implement policies and procedures for chemical safety in accordance with federal and state regulations.
- Monitor and maintain compliance with chemical safety regulations and standards.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and make recommendations for corrective actions.
- Educate and train faculty, staff, and students on safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals.
- Serve as a resource for the campus community on matters related to chemical safety.
- Provide guidance and support for laboratory personnel in developing and implementing safety protocols.
- Coordinate with regulatory agencies and participate in inspections and investigations.
- Develop and maintain an up-to-date chemical inventory and safety data sheet database.
- Respond to chemical spills and emergencies, and coordinate clean-up and disposal processes.
- Develop and implement emergency response plans for chemical incidents.
- Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to promote a culture of safety on campus.
- Stay current with industry developments and best practices in chemical safety.
- Manage the procurement and distribution of personal protective equipment and safety supplies.
- Conduct risk assessments and recommend appropriate safety controls.
- Review and approve protocols for chemical experiments and research projects.
- Investigate and report on any chemical safety incidents or accidents.
- Develop and maintain relationships with external partners and vendors for the safe handling and disposal of chemicals.
- Compile and analyze data related to chemical safety and provide reports to management.
- Stay updated on any changes in regulations and ensure compliance with new requirements.
- Lead and participate in safety committees and meetings to promote a safe and healthy environment.
Bachelor's Or Master's Degree In Chemistry, Biochemistry, Environmental Science, Or A Related Field.
Minimum Of 3-5 Years Of Experience In Laboratory Safety And Chemical Hygiene.
Certification As A Certified Chemical Hygiene Officer (Ccho) Or Certified Industrial Hygienist (Cih).
Knowledge Of Federal, State, And Local Regulations Related To Laboratory Safety And Chemical Hygiene.
Strong Communication And Leadership Skills, With The Ability To Train And Educate Faculty, Staff, And Students On Laboratory Safety Practices.
