  1. Oversee the care and well-being of all animals at Emory University's Field Station.
  2. Lead and manage a team of animal behavioral management staff.
  3. Ensure proper handling, enrichment, and training techniques are used for all animals.
  4. Develop and implement animal care protocols and procedures.
  5. Monitor and maintain the health and behavior of all animals, reporting any concerns to the appropriate personnel.
  6. Coordinate with researchers and other departments to facilitate animal research and maintain compliance with all ethical and legal guidelines.
  7. Maintain accurate records of animal behavior and health.
  8. Train and mentor staff on proper animal care and handling techniques.
  9. Conduct regular evaluations of staff performance and provide feedback.
  10. Collaborate with the veterinary team to provide medical care and treatment for animals.
  11. Monitor and manage the budget for animal care supplies and equipment.
  12. Stay updated on current research and advancements in animal behavior and care.
  13. Communicate effectively with all levels of staff, researchers, and other departments.
  14. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and protocols, including those set by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and the Animal Welfare Act.
  15. Maintain a safe and clean work environment for both staff and animals.
  16. Represent the Field Station at conferences and other events related to animal behavior and welfare.
  17. Continuously strive to improve animal care and management practices at the Field Station.
  18. Foster a positive and collaborative work environment for all staff.

Job Qualifications
  • Advanced Degree In Animal Behavior, Biology, Zoology, Or Related Field.

  • Minimum Of 3-5 Years Of Experience In Animal Behavioral Management, Preferably In A Field Station Or Research Setting.

  • Extensive Knowledge Of Various Animal Species And Their Behaviors, Including Experience Working With Non-Human Primates.

  • Strong Leadership And Communication Skills, With The Ability To Effectively Manage A Team Of Animal Care Staff And Researchers.

  • Understanding Of And Adherence To Ethical Guidelines For Animal Research And The Ability To Ensure Compliance With All Relevant Regulations And Protocols.
