Job Description

Emory Healthcare is seeking a skilled and dedicated Perfusionist to join our dynamic team. As a Perfusionist at Emory, you will play a critical role in the success of our cardiac surgery program by providing exceptional care and support to our patients.   1. Provide perfusion services during cardiac surgeries, including monitoring and maintaining cardiopulmonary bypass, administering medications, and managing blood flow.
  2. Collaborate with the surgical and anesthesia teams to develop and implement appropriate perfusion strategies for each individual patient.
  3. Monitor and adjust the patient's physiological parameters during surgery, such as blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and temperature.
  4. Ensure the safe and effective use of perfusion equipment and supplies, including troubleshooting and maintenance as needed.
  5. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of perfusion procedures, including patient records and perfusion machine logs.
  6. Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance the safety and effectiveness of perfusion services.
  7. Stay up-to-date on the latest developments and techniques in perfusion through continuing education and professional development opportunities.
  8. Communicate effectively with patients and their families, providing education and support related to perfusion procedures and post-operative care.
  9. Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, as well as regulatory and accreditation standards, to ensure compliance and patient safety.
  10. Serve as a resource and mentor to other perfusionists, supporting their professional growth and development.
  11. Maintain a positive and professional demeanor, fostering a collaborative and team-oriented atmosphere within the cardiac surgery program.
  12. Attend and actively participate in departmental meetings, contributing ideas and suggestions for improving perfusion services and patient care.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Perfusion Or Related Field: A Minimum Of A Bachelor's Degree In Perfusion Or A Related Field Is Typically Required For A Perfusionist Position At Emory Healthcare. This Degree Should Be From An Accredited Program And Provide A Strong Foundation In The Principles And Practices Of Perfusion.

  • Certification By The American Board Of Cardiovascular Perfusion (Abcp): Emory Healthcare Prefers Candidates Who Are Certified By The Abcp, Which Demonstrates A High Level Of Knowledge And Competency In The Field Of Perfusion. This Certification Requires Passing A Rigorous Exam And Completing Continuing Education To Maintain.

  • Experience In A Clinical Setting: Emory Healthcare Looks For Candidates With At Least Two Years Of Experience Working As A Perfusionist In A Clinical Setting. This Experience Should Include Assisting With A Variety Of Procedures, Such As Cardiac Surgeries And Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (Ecmo).

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: Perfusionists At Emory Healthcare Must Work Closely With Other Healthcare Professionals, Including Surgeons, Anesthesiologists, And Nurses. Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills Are Essential In Order To Effectively Collaborate And Provide High-Quality Patient Care.

  • Attention To Detail And Critical Thinking Abilities: As A Critical Member Of The Surgical Team, A Perfusionist Must Have A Keen Attention To Detail And The Ability To Think Critically Under Pressure. They Must Be Able To Monitor And Adjust Equipment And Medication Dosages In Real-Time To Ensure Patient Safety And Optimal Outcomes.
