  1. Act as a standardized patient for Duke University's healthcare education and training programs.
  2. Portray a variety of patient scenarios in a realistic and accurate manner.
  3. Provide feedback and evaluation to students based on their interactions with you as a patient.
  4. Maintain professionalism and adhere to program guidelines and expectations.
  5. Demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to accurately convey information and emotions.
  6. Be punctual and reliable for scheduled appointments and training sessions.
  7. Collaborate with faculty and staff to ensure a smooth and effective learning experience for students.
  8. Maintain confidentiality of patient information and scenarios.
  9. Attend training sessions and continuing education opportunities as required.
  10. Serve as a positive and enthusiastic representative of Duke University's standardized patient program.
  11. Be open to constructive feedback and use it to improve performance.
  12. Communicate any concerns or issues to program coordinators in a timely manner.
  13. Participate in program development and improvement initiatives.
  14. Follow all safety protocols and procedures while portraying patient scenarios.
  15. Continuously strive for excellence in portraying patient scenarios to enhance the educational experience for students.

Job Qualifications
  • Strong Communication Skills: The Ideal Candidate Should Possess Excellent Verbal And Non-Verbal Communication Skills In Order To Effectively Portray A Patient In Various Medical Scenarios.

  • Acting Experience: Previous Experience As An Actor Or In A Similar Role Is Preferred, As It Demonstrates The Ability To Convincingly Portray Different Characters And Emotions.

  • Familiarity With Medical Terminology: Knowledge Of Medical Terminology And Procedures Is Beneficial In Order To Accurately Portray A Patient And Their Symptoms.

  • Flexibility And Availability: The Role Of A Standardized Patient May Require Availability During Weekdays, Evenings, And Weekends Depending On The Scheduling Needs Of The Program. Flexibility In Scheduling Is Essential.

  • Empathy And Professionalism: Standardized Patients Are Expected To Interact With Medical Students And Faculty In A Professional And Empathetic Manner. The Ability To Listen, Provide Constructive Feedback, And Maintain Confidentiality Is Crucial In This Role.

Duke University is a private research university in Durham, North Carolina. Founded by Methodists and Quakers in the present-day town of Trinity in 1838, the school moved to Durham in 1892.
