Job Description

As a Staff Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the daily operations of our department and contributing to the success of our students and faculty.   1. Greet and welcome visitors to Duke University in a friendly and professional manner.
  2. Provide administrative support to the department by managing phone calls, emails, and correspondence.
  3. Maintain department calendar and schedule appointments and meetings for staff and faculty.
  4. Coordinate and organize department events, including logistics, catering, and guest invitations.
  5. Assist with budget management by tracking expenses and processing invoices.
  6. Maintain accurate and organized records, including student and faculty files.
  7. Serve as a point of contact for students, faculty, and staff, addressing inquiries and redirecting them as needed.
  8. Prepare and distribute departmental communications, such as newsletters and announcements.
  9. Collaborate with other departments and campus partners to ensure smooth operations and effective communication.
  10. Serve as a resource for students, providing support and guidance when needed.
  11. Assist with student recruitment and admissions processes, including scheduling interviews and campus tours.
  12. Conduct research and gather data for various projects and reports.
  13. Monitor and maintain inventory of office supplies and equipment.
  14. Uphold confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  15. Continuously seek ways to improve processes and enhance the department's efficiency.

Job Qualifications

About Duke University

Duke University is a private research university in Durham, North Carolina. Founded by Methodists and Quakers in the present-day town of Trinity in 1838, the school moved to Durham in 1892. In 1924, tobacco and electric power industrialist James Buchanan Duke established The Duke Endowment and the institution changed its name to honor his deceased father, Washington Duke.
