We are currently seeking a Stacks Maintenance and Retrieval Assistant to join our library team and help us maintain a well-organized and efficient environment for our patrons. As a Stacks Maintenance and Retrieval Assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring our library's stacks are properly maintained and materials are readily available for use.   1. Maintain and organize library stacks according to established procedures and guidelines.
  2. Monitor the condition of materials in the stacks and report any damages or issues to the appropriate staff.
  3. Retrieve and reshelve materials from the stacks for patrons and staff in a timely and accurate manner.
  4. Assist with inventory and collection maintenance, including shifting and weeding materials as needed.
  5. Collaborate with other library staff to ensure efficient and effective use of space in the stacks.
  6. Provide friendly and helpful customer service to patrons, answering questions and directing them to resources as needed.
  7. Maintain accurate records of materials retrieved and shelved in the stacks.
  8. Assist with special projects and tasks related to stacks maintenance, such as reorganizing sections or creating new signage.
  9. Stay informed about library policies and procedures and communicate them to patrons when necessary.
  10. Assist with training and supervising student workers who may also be responsible for stacks maintenance.
  11. Actively participate in meetings and discussions related to improving library services and resources.
  12. Remain current on trends and best practices in library stacks maintenance and retrieval.
  13. Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines when handling materials.
  14. Maintain a clean and organized work environment in the stacks and surrounding areas.
  15. Continuously seek ways to improve and streamline stacks maintenance processes to enhance the overall library experience for patrons.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Library Science, Information Science, Or A Related Field.

  • Knowledge Of Library Systems And Procedures, Including Cataloging And Classification.

  • Experience Working In A Library Setting, Preferably With Experience In Stacks Maintenance And Retrieval.

  • Strong Organizational Skills, Attention To Detail, And Ability To Work Independently.

  • Excellent Communication And Customer Service Skills, With A Commitment To Providing Quality Service To Library Patrons.

About Duke University

Duke University is a private research university in Durham, North Carolina. Founded by Methodists and Quakers in the present-day town of Trinity in 1838, the school moved to Durham in 1892.
