As a Patient Account Associate, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the financial well-being of our patients and their families.   1. Greet and welcome patients and their families to Duke University's Center for Living in a warm and professional manner.
  2. Provide exceptional customer service to patients by answering questions, resolving concerns, and addressing any issues related to their accounts.
  3. Verify insurance coverage and benefits for patients and accurately process insurance claims.
  4. Review and analyze patient financial records to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  5. Communicate with patients and their families regarding payment options and financial responsibility.
  6. Collaborate with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and other parties to resolve billing and payment discrepancies.
  7. Maintain electronic and paper records of patient accounts and update information as needed.
  8. Educate patients on financial assistance programs and assist with application processes.
  9. Follow up on delinquent accounts and work towards resolving outstanding balances.
  10. Adhere to all HIPAA regulations and maintain strict confidentiality of patient information.
  11. Stay updated on industry changes and regulations related to patient accounts and billing.
  12. Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for improving patient satisfaction and financial processes.
  13. Maintain a positive and professional attitude while representing Duke University's Center for Living.
  14. Provide support and assistance to other departments as needed.
  15. Continuously strive to meet and exceed performance metrics and goals set by the organization.

Job Qualifications
  • Knowledge Of Medical Billing And Coding: The Candidate Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of Medical Billing And Coding Procedures, Including Knowledge Of Various Insurance Plans, Reimbursement Processes, And Relevant Regulations.

  • Experience With Electronic Health Records (Ehr): Familiarity With Ehr Systems Is Essential For This Role, As The Patient Account Associate Will Be Responsible For Updating And Maintaining Patient Records, As Well As Processing Insurance Claims Electronically.

  • Strong Communication Skills: Effective Communication Is Crucial In This Role As The Patient Account Associate Will Need To Interact With Patients, Insurance Providers, And Healthcare Professionals To Resolve Billing And Payment Issues.

About Duke University

Duke University is a private research university in Durham, North Carolina. Founded by Methodists and Quakers in the present-day town of Trinity in 1838, the school moved to Durham in 1892.
