  1. Provide specialized care to patients under the guidance of ophthalmologists.
  2. Perform various ophthalmic tests and procedures, such as visual acuity, tonometry, and retinal imaging.
  3. Assist with patient appointments, including scheduling, prepping equipment, and maintaining patient records.
  4. Educate patients on proper eye care and post-operative instructions.
  5. Maintain and sterilize ophthalmic equipment and instruments.
  6. Monitor and document patient vitals and medical history.
  7. Work closely with the ophthalmology team to ensure efficient and effective patient care.
  8. Communicate with patients, physicians, and other medical staff in a professional and courteous manner.
  9. Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current on advancements in ophthalmic technology and procedures.
  10. Adhere to all safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  11. Assist with administrative tasks, such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, and verifying insurance.
  12. Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
  13. Collaborate with insurance companies to obtain pre-authorization for procedures and tests.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned by the ophthalmology team or supervisor.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Ophthalmic Science Or Related Field

  • Certification As A Certified Ophthalmic Technician (Cot) Or Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (Coa)

  • Minimum Of 2 Years Experience In A Clinical Ophthalmic Setting

  • Strong Knowledge Of Ophthalmic Diagnostic Equipment And Procedures

  • Excellent Interpersonal And Communication Skills, With The Ability To Work Effectively In A Team Environment.

About Duke University

Duke University is a private research university in Durham, North Carolina. Founded by Methodists and Quakers in the present-day town of Trinity in 1838, the school moved to Durham in 1892. In 1924, tobacco and electric power industrialist James Buchanan Duke established The Duke Endowment and the institution changed its name to honor his deceased father, Washington Duke.
