Welcome to Duke University's Inpatient Behavioral Health unit. We are seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to join our team as a Health Unit Coordinator (HUC). As a HUC, you will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient and effective operation of our unit.   1. Greet and welcome patients, visitors, and staff to the unit in a friendly and professional manner.
  2. Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and charts.
  3. Coordinate patient admissions, discharges, and transfers with other healthcare professionals.
  4. Schedule and coordinate appointments, procedures, and tests for patients.
  5. Answer phone calls and respond to inquiries from patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  6. Ensure proper documentation and filing of all medical records and forms.
  7. Monitor and maintain inventory of medical and office supplies.
  8. Communicate effectively with healthcare team members to ensure efficient and coordinated patient care.
  9. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA regulations.
  10. Update and maintain patient information in electronic medical records system.
  11. Act as a liaison between patients, families, and healthcare providers.
  12. Assist with administrative tasks such as scheduling meetings, managing emails, and organizing documents.
  13. Collaborate with other departments to coordinate patient care and ensure a smooth workflow.
  14. Participate in staff meetings and training programs to stay updated on unit policies and procedures.
  15. Ensure a clean and organized work environment.
  16. Adhere to all safety and infection control protocols.
  17. Assist with billing and insurance documentation.
  18. Handle patient complaints and concerns in a professional and timely manner.
  19. Provide support to patients and families during difficult situations.
  20. Continuously strive to improve the quality of patient care by identifying and suggesting process improvements.
