Job Description

Do you have experience in mental health counseling and a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by collegiate athletes? Duke University Athletics is seeking an Assistant Athletic Director for Mental Health and Performance to join our team and provide essential support to our student-athletes. In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of our student-athletes by implementing innovative mental health programs and collaborating with coaches, athletic trainers, and other staff members.   1. Develop and implement innovative mental health programs and initiatives to support the overall well-being and performance of student-athletes.
  2. Provide individual and group counseling services to student-athletes, focusing on their unique challenges and needs.
  3. Collaborate with coaches, athletic trainers, and other staff members to ensure a holistic approach to supporting student-athletes' mental health and performance.
  4. Conduct regular mental health assessments of student-athletes and create personalized treatment plans to address any mental health concerns.
  5. Serve as a resource for coaches, athletic trainers, and staff on mental health issues and provide guidance on how to support student-athletes' mental well-being.
  6. Stay up-to-date on the latest research and best practices in mental health counseling and apply this knowledge to enhance services and programs for student-athletes.
  7. Maintain accurate and confidential records of all counseling sessions and follow ethical guidelines in providing services to student-athletes.
  8. Support student-athletes in developing coping strategies and techniques to manage stress, anxiety, and other mental health issues.
  9. Collaborate with campus resources such as the counseling center, health center, and academic support services to provide comprehensive support for student-athletes.
  10. Participate in outreach and education efforts to increase awareness of mental health and promote a positive and supportive culture for student-athletes.
  11. Serve as a positive role model for student-athletes and uphold ethical standards in all interactions with them.
  12. Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of mental health programs and services and make recommendations for improvement.
  13. Attend staff meetings and participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to mental health counseling for student-athletes.
  14. Adhere to all NCAA, conference, and university rules and regulations related to student-athlete well-being and mental health.
  15. Collaborate with the athletic department leadership to promote a culture of mental health and performance excellence among student-athletes, coaches, and staff

Job Qualifications
  • Master's Degree In Sports Psychology, Counseling, Or Related Field

  • Minimum Of 3-5 Years Experience Working In A Collegiate Or Professional Sports Environment

  • Certification As A Mental Performance Consultant Or Licensed Therapist

  • Strong Understanding Of Ncaa Rules And Regulations Related To Mental Health And Performance

  • Experience Developing And Implementing Mental Health Programs And Resources For Athletes.

Duke University is a private research university in Durham, North Carolina. Founded by Methodists and Quakers in the present-day town of Trinity in 1838, the school moved to Durham in 1892.
