- Conduct microbiological testing and analysis on patient samples to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases.
- Utilize advanced laboratory equipment and techniques to perform tests accurately and efficiently.
- Interpret and report test results accurately, ensuring timely delivery to healthcare professionals.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and reliable results.
- Follow all safety and quality control procedures to maintain a safe and efficient working environment.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, including physicians and nurses, to discuss test results and their implications for patient care.
- Stay up-to-date with current advancements and developments in the field of microbiology and incorporate them into daily laboratory practices.
- Participate in research projects and assist in the development of new laboratory techniques and procedures.
- Train and mentor junior laboratory staff, including Medical Lab Technicians and Assistants.
- Maintain accurate and organized laboratory records and documentation.
- Adhere to all HIPAA and patient confidentiality regulations.
- Communicate effectively with team members and other healthcare professionals to ensure smooth and efficient workflow.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory processes.
- Maintain a clean and organized laboratory space.
- Attend and actively participate in departmental meetings and trainings.
Bachelor's Degree In Medical Laboratory Science Or Related Field - Candidates For This Position Should Possess A Bachelor's Degree In Medical Laboratory Science Or A Related Field, Such As Biology Or Microbiology. This Demonstrates A Strong Foundation In The Scientific Principles And Techniques Necessary For The Job.
Certification As A Medical Laboratory Scientist (Mls) - Candidates Should Have Certification As A Medical Laboratory Scientist From A Recognized Organization, Such As The American Society For Clinical Pathology (Ascp) Or The National Credentialing Agency For Laboratory Personnel (Nca). This Certification Ensures That Candidates Have Met The Necessary Standards For Competency In The Field.
Experience In A Clinical Microbiology Laboratory - Prior Experience Working In A Clinical Microbiology Laboratory Is Highly Preferred For This Position. This Can Include Experience In Performing Various Microbiological Tests And Procedures, Interpreting Results, And Maintaining Quality Control.
Knowledge Of Laboratory Safety Protocols And Regulations - Candidates Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Laboratory Safety Protocols And Regulations, Such As Those Set By The Occupational Safety And Health Administration (Osha) And The Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (Clia). This Is Essential For Maintaining A Safe And Compliant Laboratory Environment.
