Job Description

  1. Administer Anesthesia: The critical care anesthesiologist will be responsible for administering anesthesia to patients undergoing surgical procedures. This includes assessing the patient's medical history, selecting the appropriate type and dosage of anesthesia, monitoring the patient's vital signs, and adjusting anesthesia levels as needed.
  2. Provide Critical Care: The anesthesiologist will also be responsible for providing critical care to patients in the intensive care unit. This includes managing and monitoring patients on mechanical ventilation, administering medications, and performing invasive procedures as needed.
  3. Collaborate with Surgical Team: The critical care anesthesiologist will work closely with the surgical team to ensure the safety and comfort of patients during procedures. This includes communicating with the surgeon and other medical professionals to coordinate care and address any concerns or complications that may arise.
  4. Monitor Patient Recovery: After surgery, the anesthesiologist will continue to monitor the patient's vital signs and provide pain management as needed. They will also be responsible for ensuring the patient's safe and timely recovery from anesthesia.
  5. Document and Maintain Records: The critical care anesthesiologist will accurately document all procedures and patient information in electronic medical records. They will also be responsible for maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to all legal and ethical standards.
  6. Stay Up-to-date on Medical Advancements: As a member of our team, the anesthesiologist will be expected to stay current on new medical advancements and techniques in critical care and anesthesia. This may include attending conferences, workshops, and continuing education courses.
  7. Provide Patient Education: The anesthesiologist will also play a role in educating patients and their families about anesthesia and the critical care process. This includes explaining procedures, addressing any concerns or questions, and providing post-operative care instructions.

Job Qualifications
  • Board Certification In Anesthesiology And Critical Care Medicine: This Is A Fundamental Qualification For A Critical Care Anesthesiologist At Duke University Health System. Candidates Must Have Completed A Residency In Anesthesiology And A Fellowship In Critical Care Medicine, And Be Certified By The American Board Of Anesthesiology.

  • Extensive Clinical Experience In Critical Care: Duke University Health System Is A Leading Academic Medical Center With A High-Volume And Complex Case Load. Candidates Must Have A Minimum Of 3-5 Years Of Experience In Critical Care, Preferably In A Level I Trauma Center Or Academic Medical Center.
