- Receive, log, and label patient specimens accurately and efficiently.
- Prepare and process specimens for diagnostic testing according to established protocols and procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area to ensure the integrity of specimens.
- Verify patient information and ensure proper identification of specimens to prevent errors and maintain patient safety.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines while handling and disposing of hazardous materials.
- Collaborate with laboratory staff to resolve any issues or discrepancies with specimens.
- Monitor and maintain inventory of supplies to ensure adequate levels for daily operations.
- Follow all established protocols for specimen handling, storage, and transport to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Communicate effectively with healthcare professionals and patients to provide updates on specimen processing and address any questions or concerns.
- Participate in quality control and quality assurance activities to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
- Identify and report any abnormalities or discrepancies in specimen processing to the appropriate personnel.
- Stay current with industry standards, best practices, and new developments in the field of specimen processing.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
- Embrace and promote a culture of excellence, teamwork, and patient-centered care.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the laboratory manager or supervisor.
High School Diploma Or Equivalent: The Candidate Should Have A Minimum Educational Qualification Of A High School Diploma Or Equivalent To Be Considered For The Specimen Processor Position At Deaconess Health System.
Medical Terminology Knowledge: The Candidate Should Possess A Solid Understanding Of Medical Terminology, Including Laboratory And Diagnostic Testing Terminology, To Accurately Process And Label Specimens.
Previous Laboratory Experience: Prior Experience In A Laboratory Or Healthcare Setting Is Preferred For This Position. The Candidate Should Have A Basic Understanding Of Laboratory Procedures And Equipment Used In Specimen Processing.
Attention To Detail: The Specimen Processor Plays A Critical Role In Ensuring Accuracy And Precision In Specimen Processing. Therefore, The Candidate Must Have Excellent Attention To Detail To Avoid Errors And Maintain The Quality Of Specimens.
Strong Communication Skills: Effective Communication Is Crucial In A Healthcare Setting, And The Specimen Processor Must Be Able To Communicate Clearly And Professionally With Team Members, Physicians, And Patients To Ensure Proper Specimen Handling And Processing.
