
Patient Care Technician - Med/Surg (PCT)

- Provide direct patient care: The primary responsibility of a Patient Care Technician is to provide direct care and support to patients in the medical-surgical unit. This includes assisting with activities of daily living, such as bathing, feeding, and toileting, as well as monitoring vital signs and reporting any changes to the nursing staff.
- Monitor patient well-being: PCTs are responsible for continuously monitoring the well-being of patients, including their physical and emotional state. They must be able to recognize signs of distress or complications and report them to the appropriate medical professionals.
- Assist with medical procedures: PCTs may be required to assist with various medical procedures, such as setting up equipment, positioning patients, and providing support to the medical team. They must follow all safety protocols and maintain a sterile environment.

Cna Certification: A Patient Care Technician At Deaconess Health System Is Required To Have A Current And Valid Certified Nursing Assistant (Cna) Certification. This Ensures That The Candidate Has A Strong Foundation In Basic Patient Care Skills And Knowledge.
Basic Life Support (Bls) Certification: Deaconess Health System Requires All Patient Care Technicians To Have A Current Bls Certification. This Certification Demonstrates That The Candidate Is Trained In Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (Cpr) And Emergency Response, Which Is Essential For Providing Quality Patient Care In A Fast-Paced Medical/Surgical Environment.
Previous Experience: While Not Required, Previous Experience As A Patient Care Technician Or In A Similar Role Is Preferred For This Position At Deaconess Health System. This Experience Will Demonstrate The Candidate's Ability To Work In A Healthcare Setting And Handle The Demands Of A Med/Surg Unit.
Strong Communication Skills: As A Patient Care Technician At Deaconess Health System, Effective Communication With Patients, Families, And Healthcare Professionals Is Essential. Candidates Must Possess Strong Verbal And Written Communication Skills To Effectively Communicate And Collaborate With The Healthcare Team.
Flexibility And Adaptability: The Med/Surg Unit At Deaconess Health System Can Be A Fast-Paced And Dynamic Environment. Therefore, Candidates For This Position Should Be Able To Adapt To Changing Situations And Work Well Under Pressure. Flexibility In Scheduling, Including The Ability To Work Weekends And Holidays, Is Also Required For This Role.
