  1. Develop and maintain cutting-edge virtual machine technology that powers the Workers platform.
  2. Collaborate with a talented team to deliver innovative solutions.
  3. Design and implement virtual machine solutions for cloud-based infrastructure.
  4. Conduct research and stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in virtual machine technology.
  5. Provide technical leadership and expertise to the Workers Runtime Team.
  6. Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to virtual machines and cloud-based infrastructure.
  7. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of virtual machine technology with other components of the Workers platform.
  8. Develop and maintain documentation, including system architecture, design documents, and standard operating procedures.
  9. Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members.
  10. Mentor and train junior engineers on virtual machine engineering best practices.
  11. Continuously identify areas for improvement and propose solutions to enhance the performance and security of our virtual machine technology.
  12. Coordinate with product management to understand customer needs and requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
  13. Participate in the planning, design, and implementation of new features and enhancements for the Workers platform.
  14. Proactively identify and mitigate potential risks and issues related to virtual machine technology.
  15. Collaborate with DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering teams to ensure the scalability, reliability, and availability of our virtual machine infrastructure.

Job Qualifications

  • Extensive Experience With Virtualization Technologies: The Principal Vm Engineer Should Have A Deep Understanding Of Virtualization Technologies Such As Kvm, Xen, And Vmware, And Be Able To Design And Implement Complex Virtualization Solutions.

  • Strong Knowledge Of Linux Operating Systems: Since Cloudflare's Workers Runtime Team Primarily Works With Linux-Based Systems, The Ideal Candidate Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Linux, Including Kernel-Level Troubleshooting And Performance Tuning.

  • Proficiency In Containerization: In Addition To Traditional Virtualization, The Principal Vm Engineer Should Also Have Experience With Containerization Technologies Such As Docker And Kubernetes, And Be Able To Deploy And Manage Applications In A Containerized Environment.

  • Demonstrated Leadership Skills: As A Principal Engineer, This Role Will Involve Leading And Mentoring A Team Of Engineers. Therefore, The Candidate Should Have Strong Leadership Skills, Including The Ability To Provide Technical Guidance, Make Strategic Decisions, And Foster A Collaborative Team Environment.

  • Experience With Cloud Computing: Cloudflare Is A Leading Provider Of Cloud-Based Services, And The Principal Vm Engineer Should Have Experience Working With Cloud Computing Platforms Such As Aws, Gcp, Or Azure. This Includes Knowledge Of Infrastructure As Code Tools, Automation, And Cloud Networking.
