
Phlebotomy Technician - Inpatient

- Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures on patients of all ages using a variety of techniques.
- Prepare and label collected blood samples accurately and in a timely manner.
- Ensure proper identification of patients and samples to prevent errors.
- Follow established safety protocols and infection control measures when handling and disposing of specimens.
- Maintain adequate inventory of phlebotomy supplies and notify supervisor when supplies need to be reordered.
- Communicate effectively with patients to alleviate any fears and answer questions related to the phlebotomy process.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure accurate and timely processing of samples.
- Adhere to all quality control and quality assurance procedures to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
- Provide excellent customer service by addressing patient concerns and complaints in a professional and compassionate manner.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
- Keep accurate records of phlebotomy procedures and patient information.
- Attend and actively participate in training and continuing education programs to stay current on phlebotomy techniques and procedures.
- Assist in the training and orientation of new phlebotomy staff.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Completion Of An Accredited Phlebotomy Technician Program: Candidates Should Have Completed A Formal Training Program In Phlebotomy From An Accredited Institution. This Program Should Cover Topics Such As Anatomy, Medical Terminology, Infection Control, And Venipuncture Techniques.
Certification As A Phlebotomy Technician: Candidates Should Hold A Current Certification As A Phlebotomy Technician From A Recognized Certifying Body, Such As The American Society For Clinical Pathology (Ascp) Or The National Phlebotomy Association (Npa).
Experience In An Inpatient Setting: Candidates Should Have Prior Experience Working In An Inpatient Setting, Such As A Hospital Or Clinic. This Experience Should Include Performing Venipuncture And Other Phlebotomy Procedures On Patients Of All Ages And Health Conditions.
Knowledge Of Relevant Medical Procedures And Regulations: Candidates Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of Relevant Medical Procedures And Regulations Related To Phlebotomy, Including Osha And Hipaa Guidelines. They Should Also Be Familiar With Common Blood Tests And Their Purposes.
Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: As A Phlebotomy Technician Working In An Inpatient Setting, Candidates Must Have Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills. This Includes The Ability To Interact With Patients Of All Ages And Backgrounds, As Well As Collaborate Effectively With Other Healthcare Professionals.
