- Provide high-quality medical care to animals in the shelter, including routine check-ups, vaccinations, surgeries, and emergency treatments.
- Develop and implement treatment plans for sick and injured animals, ensuring their welfare and comfort.
- Perform thorough examinations and diagnostics to accurately diagnose and treat illnesses and injuries.
- Administer appropriate medications and treatments, following established protocols and guidelines.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation for all animals in the shelter.
- Collaborate with other shelter staff, including animal care technicians and adoption counselors, to ensure the overall well-being of animals and promote successful adoptions.
- Educate and advise shelter staff, volunteers, and the public on responsible pet ownership, including spaying/neutering, preventative care, and behavior management.
- Participate in community outreach programs and events to promote the shelter's mission and services.
- Stay updated on industry best practices, new medical treatments, and relevant laws and regulations related to animal welfare.
- Assist with the development and implementation of shelter policies and procedures to ensure the highest standards of care for animals.
- Supervise and mentor veterinary technicians and other support staff.
- Collaborate with local veterinary clinics and specialists for referrals and consultations when necessary.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to all safety protocols and regulations.
- Act as an advocate for animal welfare, both within the shelter and in the community.
- Participate in meetings and trainings to stay informed on shelter operations and contribute to decision-making processes.
Doctor Of Veterinary Medicine (Dvm) Degree From An Accredited University.
Current License To Practice Veterinary Medicine In The State Of Washington.
Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience Working In A Shelter Or Animal Welfare Setting.
Knowledge And Experience In Preventive Care, Surgery, And Emergency Medical Treatment For A Wide Variety Of Animals.
Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills To Work Effectively With Staff, Volunteers, And The General Public.
