Job Description

Welcome to the City of Seattle's Parks & Recreation Department! We are currently seeking passionate and highly motivated individuals to join our team as a Temporary, Intermittent Lifeguard. As a lifeguard, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our community members at our various pools and beaches. This is a temporary, intermittent position with flexible hours, perfect for those looking for a summer job or seeking to gain experience in the field of lifeguarding.   1. Ensure the safety of all community members using the pools and beaches.
  2. Monitor and enforce pool and beach rules to prevent accidents and injuries.
  3. Perform water rescues and administer first aid when necessary.
  4. Maintain a clean and organized pool and beach area.
  5. Provide excellent customer service to all patrons.
  6. Recognize and respond to potential hazards or unsafe conditions.
  7. Communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors.
  8. Attend and participate in mandatory training and certification courses.
  9. Follow all safety protocols and procedures set by the Parks & Recreation Department.
  10. Maintain accurate records and reports related to daily activities and incidents.
  11. Assist in the set-up and breakdown of pool and beach equipment.
  12. Educate community members on water safety and proper pool and beach etiquette.
  13. Remain vigilant and alert at all times while on duty.
  14. Demonstrate a positive and professional attitude towards colleagues and patrons.
  15. Adhere to all department policies and procedures.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Job Qualifications
  • Current Lifeguard Certification: The Candidate Must Possess A Valid Lifeguard Certification From A Nationally Recognized Organization Such As The American Red Cross Or The Ymca. This Certification Demonstrates The Individual's Knowledge And Skills In Water Safety, Cpr, And First Aid.

  • Prior Lifeguard Experience: Previous Experience Working As A Lifeguard Is Preferred For This Position. This Shows That The Candidate Has A Strong Understanding Of The Role And Responsibilities Of A Lifeguard And Is Able To React Quickly And Effectively In Emergency Situations.

  • Strong Swimming Skills: A Lifeguard Must Be A Strong Swimmer With The Ability To Perform Various Rescue Techniques In Different Water Conditions. Candidates Should Possess Endurance, Speed, And Agility In The Water.

  • Knowledge Of Safety Protocols: Lifeguards Must Have A Thorough Understanding Of Safety Protocols And Procedures To Prevent Accidents And Respond Appropriately In Emergency Situations. This Includes Knowledge Of Pool Rules, Emergency Action Plans, And Equipment Usage.

  • Excellent Communication Skills: As A Lifeguard, It Is Important To Effectively Communicate With Pool Patrons, Fellow Lifeguards, And Other Staff Members. The Ability To Remain Calm And Communicate Clearly During Emergency Situations Is Crucial For The Safety Of All Individuals At The Pool.
