Job Description

Welcome to the City of Seattle! We are currently seeking a dynamic and passionate individual to join our team as the Executive Director of the Seattle Animal Shelter. This is a unique opportunity to make a positive impact in our community by leading one of the largest municipal animal shelters in the Pacific Northwest. We are looking for a strong leader who is dedicated to animal welfare and has a proven track record of successfully managing and developing programs.   1. Develop and implement strategic plans to advance the mission and goals of the Seattle Animal Shelter.
  2. Oversee all aspects of the animal shelter operations, including animal intake, adoption, medical care, and customer service.
  3. Lead and manage a team of shelter staff, volunteers, and partners to ensure the highest level of care for the animals and the community.
  4. Collaborate with city officials, community organizations, and other stakeholders to address animal welfare issues and promote responsible pet ownership.
  5. Manage the shelter's budget and resources effectively to ensure financial sustainability and responsible use of public funds.
  6. Develop and maintain strong relationships with donors, sponsors, and grant-making organizations to secure funding for shelter programs and initiatives.
  7. Review and improve existing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  8. Represent the Seattle Animal Shelter in public forums, media interviews, and community events to promote the shelter's mission and values.
  9. Stay informed and up-to-date on industry best practices and trends in animal welfare, and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
  10. Act as a liaison between the Seattle Animal Shelter and other city departments, providing updates and reports as needed.
  11. Ensure the safety and well-being of all animals in the shelter's care, and take appropriate action to address any health, behavior, or welfare concerns.
  12. Foster a positive and inclusive work environment, promoting teamwork, professional development, and a culture of compassion and respect.
  13. Prepare and present regular reports to the city council and other stakeholders on shelter operations, outcomes, and impact.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned by the City of Seattle in support of the Seattle Animal Shelter's mission and goals.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In A Relevant Field, Such As Animal Science, Biology, Or Business Administration.

  • Minimum Of 7 Years Of Experience In A Leadership Role, Preferably In A Non-Profit Or Government Setting.

  • Extensive Knowledge Of Animal Welfare And Shelter Operations, Including Best Practices And Industry Standards.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Build And Maintain Relationships With Stakeholders, Including Staff, Volunteers, And Community Members.

  • Proven Track Record Of Successful Budget Management And Fundraising Experience.
