Job Description

The City of Seattle is seeking a Business Improvement Area (BIA) Specialist to join our team and make a positive impact on the economic vitality and livability of our city. In this role, you will work closely with local businesses, community members, and city stakeholders to develop and implement strategies for enhancing the overall business climate and promoting growth in designated BIAs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in economic development, project management, and community engagement, along with a deep understanding of the unique needs and challenges facing urban neighborhoods.   1. Develop and implement strategies to enhance the economic vitality and livability of designated BIAs in Seattle.
  2. Collaborate with local businesses, community members, and city stakeholders to identify and address challenges facing BIAs.
  3. Conduct research and analysis to identify economic trends and opportunities for growth in designated BIAs.
  4. Provide guidance and support to local businesses in navigating city regulations and resources.
  5. Plan and facilitate meetings and events to engage and involve BIA stakeholders in the decision-making process.
  6. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of BIA initiatives and make recommendations for improvements.
  7. Work closely with city departments and agencies to coordinate and align BIA efforts with overall city goals and initiatives.
  8. Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including local business owners, community organizations, and government officials.
  9. Manage BIA budgets and ensure financial resources are allocated appropriately.
  10. Collaborate with other city departments and external partners to develop and implement programs that support business growth and development in designated BIAs.
  11. Stay informed on current economic development trends and best practices to inform BIA strategies and initiatives.
  12. Represent the City of Seattle at community events and meetings related to BIAs.
  13. Provide regular updates and reports to city leadership on the progress and impact of BIA initiatives.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Business Administration, Urban Planning, Or A Related Field.

  • Minimum Of 3 Years Of Experience In Community And Economic Development, Preferably Within A Bia Or Municipal Government Setting.

  • Knowledge Of Bia Policies, Procedures, And Best Practices.

  • Strong Project Management Skills, Including The Ability To Coordinate And Lead Cross-Functional Teams.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Engage And Collaborate With A Diverse Range Of Stakeholders, Including Business Owners, Community Organizations, And Government Officials.
