- Plan and facilitate a variety of recreational activities for children and families in the Summer Free For All Free Lunch + Play program.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants in the program.
- Engage and interact with diverse populations, including children, families, and community members.
- Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all program participants.
- Collaborate with other Recreation Leaders and program staff to develop and implement engaging activities.
- Communicate effectively with parents and caregivers about program details and participant behavior.
- Maintain accurate records of program attendance and participant information.
- Assist with set-up and clean-up of program activities and supplies.
- Work closely with program coordinators to develop and implement program goals and objectives.
- Continuously evaluate and improve program activities to ensure a positive experience for all participants.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
- Serve as a positive role model for children and uphold the values of the City of Portland.
- Maintain a professional and positive attitude at all times.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols.
- Other duties as assigned by program coordinators or supervisors.
Experience Working With Youth: A Recreation Leader Generalist Should Have Experience Working With Children And Youth In A Recreational Setting. This Could Include Previous Employment At A Summer Camp, After-School Program, Or Community Center.
Knowledge Of Recreational Activities: The Ideal Candidate Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Various Recreational Activities Such As Sports, Arts And Crafts, And Games. They Should Be Able To Plan And Lead Engaging And Age-Appropriate Activities For Children.
Cpr And First Aid Certification: Due To The Nature Of The Job And The Potential For Accidents Or Emergencies, A Recreation Leader Generalist Should Be Cpr And First Aid Certified. This Ensures The Safety And Well-Being Of The Children Under Their Care.
Strong Communication Skills: As A Recreation Leader Generalist, The Candidate Will Be Responsible For Communicating With Both Children And Parents. They Should Have Excellent Communication Skills To Effectively Relay Information And Address Any Concerns.
Ability To Work In A Team: The City Of Portland Values Teamwork And Collaboration. A Recreation Leader Generalist Should Be Able To Work Effectively With Other Staff Members And Volunteers To Ensure A Positive And Inclusive Environment For All Participants.
