Job Description

The City of Portland-Oregon is seeking dedicated and skilled EMT Medical Responders to join our pioneering Portland Street Response team. In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a direct and positive impact on our community by responding to non-emergency medical calls and connecting individuals with the appropriate resources. If you have a strong background in emergency medical services and a desire to serve the city of Portland in a unique and fulfilling way, we want to hear from you!

  1. Respond to non-emergency medical calls in a timely and compassionate manner.
  2. Provide high-quality and efficient medical care to individuals in need.
  3. Work collaboratively with a team of EMT Medical Responders to assess and address the needs of the community.
  4. Utilize critical thinking skills to identify and prioritize medical needs in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
  5. Maintain accurate and detailed medical records and documentation.
  6. Communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and connect them with appropriate resources.
  7. Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures while providing medical care.
  8. Continuously stay updated on current medical practices and procedures.
  9. Act as a positive representative of the City of Portland and the Portland Street Response team.
  10. Collaborate with other emergency response teams and agencies to provide comprehensive care to the community.
  11. Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
  12. Demonstrate empathy, compassion, and professionalism in all interactions with individuals in need.
  13. Adhere to all ethical and legal standards in the provision of medical care.
  14. Maintain a high level of physical and mental stamina to effectively respond to emergency situations.
  15. Act as a role model for other team members and promote a positive and supportive work environment.

Job Qualifications

  • Valid Emt Certification: Candidates Must Possess A Current And Valid Emt Certification From The State Of Oregon, As Well As Maintain It Throughout Their Employment With Portland Street Response.

  • Experience Working In Emergency Medical Services: Candidates Should Have Prior Experience Working In A Fast-Paced And High-Stress Environment, Preferably In Emergency Medical Services. This Could Include Experience As An Emt, Paramedic, Or In A Similar Role.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: As A Medical Responder For Portland Street Response, Candidates Will Be Expected To Communicate Effectively With Individuals Experiencing Homelessness And Mental Health Crises, As Well As Collaborate With Other First Responders And Community Partners.

  • Knowledge Of Harm Reduction Principles: Portland Street Response Is Committed To Harm Reduction Principles, Which Prioritize Reducing Harm And Providing Compassionate Care To Individuals Experiencing Homelessness And Mental Health Crises. Candidates Should Have A Basic Understanding Of These Principles And Be Willing To Incorporate Them Into Their Work.

  • Ability To Work A Non-Traditional Schedule: The Portland Street Response Program Operates 24/7, So Candidates Must Be Willing And Able To Work A Variety Of Shifts, Including Nights, Weekends, And Holidays. This May Also Include Being On-Call For Emergency Response.
