Job Description

Welcome to the City of Portland, Oregon! We are currently seeking passionate individuals to join our team as Environmental Education - YCC Youth Crew Members and NDC Teen Educators.   1. Develop and implement engaging and interactive environmental education curriculum for youth and teens.
  2. Act as a positive role model for students and promote environmental stewardship.
  3. Lead and facilitate educational activities and projects for youth and teens in the community.
  4. Collaborate with other team members to plan and execute environmental education events and programs.
  5. Communicate effectively with students, parents, and community members.
  6. Maintain a safe and respectful learning environment for all participants.
  7. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs and make necessary adjustments.
  8. Provide support and guidance to youth and teens as they plan and carry out environmental projects.
  9. Maintain accurate records and reports on program activities and progress.
  10. Stay up-to-date on current environmental issues and trends to enhance program content.
  11. Attend training and professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills.
  12. Uphold the mission and values of the City of Portland and promote a positive image of the organization.
  13. Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines while working with students.
  14. Collaborate with community organizations and partners to expand the reach of the program.
  15. Foster a sense of teamwork and inclusivity among youth and teens from diverse backgrounds.
  16. Encourage students to take action and make positive changes in their communities.
  17. Actively recruit and engage students in the program.
  18. Assist with administrative tasks and program logistics as needed.
  19. Maintain a positive and professional attitude at all times.
  20. Continuously strive to improve and enhance the program to better serve the community.

Job Qualifications
  • Knowledge Of Environmental Education Principles: The Ideal Candidate Should Possess A Strong Understanding Of Environmental Education Principles And Practices, Including Environmental Stewardship, Sustainability, And Conservation.

  • Experience Working With Youth: Previous Experience Working With Youth, Particularly In An Outdoor Setting, Is Essential For This Role. The Candidate Should Be Comfortable Leading And Engaging Groups Of Young People In Educational Activities.

  • Strong Communication Skills: Effective Communication Skills Are Necessary For This Role, As The Candidate Will Be Responsible For Delivering Educational Programs And Interacting With Both Youth And Adults. This Includes Public Speaking, Writing, And Interpersonal Skills.

  • Environmental Knowledge: A Solid Understanding Of Local Environmental Issues And The Natural Resources Of The Portland Area Is Important For This Role. The Candidate Should Also Be Knowledgeable About Current Conservation Efforts And Sustainability Practices.

  • Physical Fitness: This Job Requires Spending A Significant Amount Of Time Outdoors, Often In Rugged Terrain And Varying Weather Conditions. The Candidate Should Be Physically Fit And Able To Hike, Carry Equipment, And Participate In Other Physically Demanding Activities.
