Job Description

Welcome to the City of Detroit's Recreation Department! We are currently seeking a passionate and enthusiastic Recreation Leader to join our team and help us provide engaging and inclusive recreational activities for our community. As a Recreation Leader, you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of our residents by organizing and leading a variety of recreational programs, events, and classes. We are looking for a dedicated individual who is committed to promoting health, wellness, and fun for all ages.   1. Plan and organize a variety of recreational programs, events, and classes for community members of all ages.
  2. Lead and supervise recreational activities, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all participants.
  3. Develop and implement innovative and engaging recreational activities that promote health and wellness.
  4. Work closely with other members of the Recreation Department team to coordinate and promote programs and events.
  5. Provide excellent customer service to community members by addressing any concerns or inquiries.
  6. Maintain accurate records of program attendance, participation, and feedback.
  7. Collaborate with local organizations and businesses to enhance recreational offerings and partnerships.
  8. Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in recreation to continually improve programs and services.
  9. Train and supervise a team of volunteers and/or staff to assist with program implementation.
  10. Ensure all equipment and facilities are properly maintained and meet safety standards.
  11. Adhere to department policies and procedures, as well as city and state regulations.
  12. Act as a positive role model for community members and promote a sense of community through recreational activities.
  13. Attend department meetings and trainings as required.
  14. Assist in the preparation and management of the department budget.
  15. Actively participate in community outreach and marketing efforts to promote recreational programs and events.
  16. Continuously evaluate and assess the effectiveness of programs and make recommendations for improvement.
  17. Embrace diversity and inclusivity by creating and implementing programs that cater to the needs and interests of all community members.
  18. Represent the Recreation Department in a professional and positive manner at all times.
  19. Serve as a liaison between the community and the Recreation Department, addressing any concerns or suggestions for improvement.
  20. Other duties as assigned by the Recreation Director or supervisor.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Recreation Management Or Related Field.

  • Previous Experience Working In A Recreational Setting, Preferably In A Leadership Or Supervisory Role.

  • Knowledge Of Recreational Activities And Programs, Including Sports, Arts And Crafts, And Special Events.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Interact With People Of All Ages And Backgrounds.

  • Cpr And First Aid Certification, Or Willingness To Obtain Within The First 90 Days Of Employment.
