
Materials Laboratory Technician - DPW

- Conduct tests and analyses on various construction materials, including but not limited to asphalt, concrete, and soil.
- Ensure accuracy and precision in testing procedures and results.
- Maintain detailed records of all tests and analyses performed.
- Communicate test results to project managers and other relevant parties.
- Collaborate with engineers and other team members to troubleshoot and resolve any issues with materials.
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures while conducting tests and handling materials.
- Keep up-to-date with industry standards and best practices in materials testing.
- Assist with the development and implementation of new testing methods and procedures.
- Troubleshoot and maintain laboratory equipment.
- Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills.
- Actively contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment.
- Adhere to departmental policies and procedures.
- Provide support for other departmental projects and initiatives as needed.
- Represent the department and the city in a professional manner at all times.

Education And Training: A Materials Laboratory Technician At City Of Detroit Should Possess At Least A High School Diploma Or Equivalent, With Additional Coursework Or Certification In Materials Testing And Analysis. A Degree In Civil Engineering, Materials Science, Or A Related Field Is Preferred.
Experience: Candidates Should Have At Least 2-3 Years Of Experience In A Materials Testing Laboratory, Preferably In A Government Or Public Works Setting. Experience With A Variety Of Materials Testing Equipment And Methods, Such As Soil Compaction, Concrete Strength, And Asphalt Density, Is Required.
Knowledge Of Industry Standards: A Strong Understanding Of Industry Standards And Guidelines For Materials Testing, Such As Astm, Aashto, And Aci, Is Necessary For This Role. Candidates Should Be Able To Interpret And Apply These Standards To Ensure Accurate And Reliable Test Results.
Attention To Detail: A Materials Laboratory Technician Must Have Excellent Attention To Detail, As Even Small Errors In Testing Procedures Or Data Recording Can Have Significant Consequences. The Ability To Follow Strict Protocols And Maintain Accurate Records Is Essential For This Position.
Collaborative Team Player: The City Of Detroit Values Teamwork And Collaboration, And Therefore, The Ideal Candidate For This Role Should Possess Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills. As A Member Of The Dpw Team, The Materials Laboratory Technician Will Need To Work Closely With Other Departments And Team Members To Ensure Timely And Accurate Completion Of Projects.
