
Library Clerical Assistant

- Process materials: Check in and out books, DVDs, and other library resources, collect and record fees for overdue or lost items, and manage holds and interlibrary loans.

- Assist with programming: Help plan and implement library events and programs, including book clubs, author visits, and children's activities.
- Troubleshoot technology: Assist patrons with using library computers, printers, and other technology, and troubleshoot basic technical issues.
- Support library staff: Collaborate with other library staff to provide seamless customer service, assist with special projects, and maintain a positive and welcoming environment.
- Perform clerical duties: Answer phones, respond to emails, and perform other administrative tasks as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness: Help keep the library tidy and organized, including dusting shelves, wiping down surfaces, and restocking supplies.
- Stay up-to-date on library policies and procedures: Attend trainings and meetings to stay informed about library policies, procedures, and new services, and assist with training new staff or volunteers.
High School Diploma Or Equivalent: A Library Clerical Assistant At The City Of Detroit Must Have A Minimum Of A High School Diploma Or Ged To Be Considered For The Position.
Knowledge Of Library Systems And Procedures: Candidates Should Have A Basic Understanding Of Library Systems, Including Cataloging, Circulation, And Reference Services, As Well As Experience Working With Library Software And Databases.
Strong Organizational Skills: The Ability To Manage And Prioritize Multiple Tasks And Projects Is Essential For A Library Clerical Assistant. This Includes Maintaining Accurate Records, Shelving And Organizing Materials, And Assisting With Library Events And Programs.
Excellent Communication Skills: As A Public-Facing Role, The Library Clerical Assistant Must Have Strong Communication Skills To Interact With Library Patrons Of All Ages And Backgrounds.
