Job Description

Are you a highly organized and detail-oriented individual with a passion for the legal field? If so, the City of Detroit is looking for a Legal Secretary to join our team. In this role, you will provide administrative support to our legal department and assist with a variety of legal tasks. We are seeking a candidate who is able to handle a fast-paced work environment, maintain confidentiality, and work well independently as well as part of a team.   1. Provide administrative support to the legal department, including but not limited to drafting and formatting legal documents, managing calendars, and organizing files.
  2. Assist with a variety of legal tasks, such as conducting legal research, preparing court filings, and communicating with clients and other parties.
  3. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive legal information and documents.
  4. Manage a fast-paced work environment and handle multiple tasks and priorities with accuracy and efficiency.
  5. Work independently as well as collaboratively with attorneys and other legal staff.
  6. Utilize strong organizational and time management skills to meet deadlines and ensure smooth operation of the legal department.
  7. Demonstrate a high level of attention to detail in all tasks, including proofreading and editing legal documents for accuracy.
  8. Communicate effectively with team members, clients, and other stakeholders in a professional and courteous manner.
  9. Stay up-to-date on legal procedures and regulations to ensure compliance and efficiency in daily tasks.
  10. Contribute to a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork and supporting colleagues as needed.

Job Qualifications
  • A Minimum Of 3 Years Of Experience Working As A Legal Secretary In A Law Firm Or Government Agency.

  • Proficiency In Using Legal Software Such As Lexisnexis, Westlaw, And Microsoft Office.

  • Knowledge Of Legal Terminology And Procedures, Including Court Filings And Document Preparation.

  • Strong Organizational And Time-Management Skills, With The Ability To Prioritize Tasks And Meet Deadlines.

  • Excellent Written And Verbal Communication Skills, With The Ability To Interact Professionally With Attorneys, Clients, And Other Staff Members.
