  1. Perform routine maintenance and repairs on city vehicles to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  2. Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues with city vehicles.
  3. Keep accurate records of all repairs and maintenance performed on city vehicles.
  4. Monitor vehicle performance and identify any potential issues that may arise.
  5. Communicate with department heads and other team members to coordinate vehicle maintenance schedules.
  6. Maintain a clean and organized workspace and follow all safety protocols.
  7. Stay up-to-date with industry advancements and new technologies to continually improve vehicle maintenance practices.
  8. Collaborate with other mechanics and team members to share knowledge and expertise.
  9. Follow all city and department policies and procedures related to vehicle maintenance and repair.
  10. Provide exceptional customer service to all departments and employees utilizing city vehicles.
  11. Work efficiently and effectively to meet tight deadlines and ensure minimal downtime for city vehicles.
  12. Assist in the procurement of parts and supplies needed for vehicle maintenance and repairs.
  13. Train and mentor new mechanics as needed.
  14. Continuously evaluate and improve vehicle maintenance processes and procedures.
  15. Represent the city in a professional manner and maintain a positive attitude at all times.

Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma Or Ged: A Minimum Education Requirement For A General Auto Mechanic At City Of Detroit Is A High School Diploma Or Ged. This Ensures That The Candidate Has A Basic Level Of Education And Understanding Of Fundamental Concepts.

  • Automotive Certification: The Ideal Candidate Should Possess An Automotive Service Excellence (Ase) Certification Or An Equivalent Certification From A Recognized Institution. This Certification Demonstrates The Candidate's Knowledge And Skills In The Automotive Industry.

  • Attention To Detail: Auto Mechanics Require A Keen Eye For Detail To Identify And Fix Problems With Vehicles. The Ideal Candidate Should Have A Strong Attention To Detail And The Ability To Work Meticulously To Ensure All Repairs Are Done Correctly.
