  1. Serve as the first point of contact for individuals in need of emergency assistance, including receiving and responding to 911 calls.
  2. Coordinate and dispatch emergency response services, including police, fire, and medical personnel, in a timely and efficient manner.
  3. Gather and accurately record critical information from callers, including location, nature of the emergency, and any pertinent details.
  4. Remain calm and composed in high-stress situations, utilizing effective communication and problem-solving skills to handle emergency calls with sensitivity and urgency.
  5. Utilize various computer systems and databases to access and relay important information to emergency responders.
  6. Monitor and track the location and status of emergency units, ensuring appropriate resources are deployed to the scene.
  7. Provide critical support and guidance to callers to help them stay safe and take necessary precautions while awaiting emergency services.
  8. Follow established protocols and procedures to ensure the safety and security of callers and emergency personnel.
  9. Continuously update and maintain accurate records of all emergency calls and responses.
  10. Participate in ongoing training and development to enhance skills and knowledge related to emergency services and procedures.
  11. Collaborate and communicate effectively with other emergency services personnel and agencies to ensure a coordinated response to emergency situations.
  12. Remain up-to-date on city policies, regulations, and procedures related to emergency services and adhere to them at all times.
  13. Represent the City of Detroit in a professional and compassionate manner, demonstrating empathy and understanding towards callers in distress.
  14. Contribute to a positive and inclusive work environment by fostering teamwork, respect, and open communication with colleagues.

Job Qualifications
  • High School Diploma Or Equivalent: The Candidate Should Have A Minimum Of A High School Diploma Or Ged To Be Eligible For The 911 Operator Position.

  • Prior Experience In Emergency Services Or Call Center: Experience Working In Emergency Services Or Call Center Environment Can Be Beneficial For Handling High-Stress Situations And Effectively Communicating With Callers.

  • Strong Communication And Multitasking Skills: The Candidate Should Possess Excellent Communication Skills And Be Able To Handle Multiple Tasks Simultaneously, Such As Answering Phones, Dispatching Emergency Services, And Documenting Information.

  • Knowledge Of Emergency Procedures And Protocols: The Candidate Should Have A Solid Understanding Of Emergency Procedures And Protocols, Including Cpr And First Aid, To Assist Callers In Emergency Situations.

  • Ability To Work In A Fast-Paced And High-Stress Environment: The 911 Operator Position Can Be Demanding And Requires The Ability To Work Under Pressure. The Candidate Should Be Able To Remain Calm And Composed While Handling Emergency Calls.
