  1. Conduct regular inspections of elevators within the city to ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards.
  2. Identify and report any potential safety hazards or issues with elevator systems.
  3. Maintain accurate and detailed records of all inspections and findings.
  4. Communicate effectively with building owners, elevator technicians, and other relevant parties to address and resolve any safety concerns.
  5. Stay up-to-date on all relevant laws, codes, and regulations related to elevator safety.
  6. Respond promptly and professionally to any reports of elevator malfunctions or accidents.
  7. Conduct thorough investigations of reported incidents and provide detailed reports to superiors.
  8. Collaborate with other city departments and agencies to develop and implement safety protocols and policies related to elevators.
  9. Provide training and guidance to elevator technicians and building owners on proper maintenance and safety procedures.
  10. Conduct follow-up inspections to ensure all identified issues have been addressed and resolved.
  11. Represent the city in meetings and discussions related to elevator safety and regulations.
  12. Continuously assess and improve the city's elevator safety program.
  13. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions and dealings related to elevator safety.
  14. Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures while conducting inspections and investigations.
  15. Attend relevant training and educational programs to enhance knowledge and skills related to elevator safety.

Job Qualifications
  • Knowledge Of Elevator Codes And Safety Standards: The Ideal Candidate Should Possess A Thorough Understanding Of Local, State, And National Elevator Codes And Safety Standards, Including Asme A17.1 And A17.3, As Well As Nfpa 70, 72, And 101.

  • Experience In Elevator Inspection: The Candidate Should Have At Least 3-5 Years Of Experience In Conducting Elevator Inspections, Preferably In A Government Or Municipal Setting. This Experience Should Include Performing Routine Inspections, Conducting Safety Audits, And Issuing Violation Notices.

  • Technical Expertise: The Candidate Should Possess A Strong Technical Background And Be Knowledgeable In All Aspects Of Elevator Systems, Including Hydraulic, Traction, And Machine-Room-Less Elevators. They Should Also Have Experience In Troubleshooting And Diagnosing Elevator Malfunctions.

  • Communication And Interpersonal Skills: The Candidate Should Have Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills, As They Will Be Required To Interact With Building Owners, Contractors, And Elevator Technicians On A Regular Basis. They Should Also Be Able To Write Detailed And Accurate Inspection Reports.

  • Certification And Licensure: The Candidate Should Hold A Valid Elevator Inspector License From The State Of Michigan Or Be Able To Obtain One Within 6 Months Of Hire. They Should Also Possess Relevant Certifications, Such As Qei (Qualified Elevator Inspector) Or Cet (Certified Elevator Technician).
