  1. Represent the City of Detroit in a variety of legal matters, including litigation, transactional work, and advising city officials and departments.
  2. Handle complex and diverse cases with professionalism and attention to detail.
  3. Stay up-to-date on all relevant laws and regulations related to municipal law.
  4. Conduct legal research and provide sound legal advice to city officials and departments.
  5. Prepare and file legal documents, such as briefs, motions, and pleadings.
  6. Attend court hearings and trials on behalf of the city.
  7. Collaborate with other attorneys and legal staff to develop effective legal strategies.
  8. Communicate effectively with clients, both internal and external, to provide updates and address any concerns.
  9. Maintain accurate and organized case files and documentation.
  10. Handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and integrity.
  11. Work independently and manage a high-volume caseload.
  12. Adhere to ethical and professional standards set by the legal profession.
  13. Participate in continuing education and training to stay current with legal developments.
  14. Represent the city at community events and meetings, promoting the mission and values of the organization.
  15. Uphold the values of public service and make a positive impact in the community.

Job Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (J.d.) Degree From An Accredited Law School.

  • Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience Practicing Law, Preferably In Municipal Or Government Law.

  • Admission To The Michigan State Bar.

  • Knowledge Of Local, State, And Federal Laws Related To Municipal Government And Public Administration.

  • Excellent Communication And Negotiation Skills, With The Ability To Effectively Represent The City Of Detroit In Legal Proceedings.
