- Provide accurate interpretation services in American Sign Language (ASL) for deaf and hard of hearing individuals in various settings, including but not limited to community events, meetings, and appointments.
- Facilitate effective communication between deaf and hard of hearing individuals and hearing individuals by interpreting verbal and non-verbal communication accurately and impartially.
- Ensure confidentiality and professionalism while interpreting sensitive information for individuals.
- Maintain proficiency in ASL and stay updated on new signs, terminology, and laws related to the deaf and hard of hearing community.
- Collaborate with other team members, including other interpreters and staff, to ensure effective communication and coordination of services.
- Understand and adhere to the ethical standards and code of conduct for interpreters, including maintaining neutrality and impartiality.
- Advocate for the rights and needs of the deaf and hard of hearing community by providing information and resources to promote equal access and inclusion.
- Educate hearing individuals on deaf culture, communication strategies, and the role of the interpreter.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of interpreted sessions.
- Attend regular training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Adhere to the policies and procedures of the City of Burbank, including maintaining a positive and respectful work environment.
- Collaborate with other departments and agencies to ensure equal access to services for the deaf and hard of hearing community.
- Provide support and guidance to other staff members on working with deaf and hard of hearing individuals.
- Stay up to date on technology and tools that can enhance the interpretation process.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or department head.
Fluency In American Sign Language (Asl) And Knowledge Of Various Sign Language Systems.
Certified Interpreter By The Registry Of Interpreters For The Deaf (Rid) Or Other Recognized Certification Program.
Strong Understanding Of Deaf Culture, Sensitivity To Cultural Differences, And Ability To Adapt To Different Communication Styles.
Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Effectively Interpret Between Hearing And Deaf Individuals In Various Settings.
