Job Description

Welcome to the City of Burbank, where we are committed to providing a safe and enjoyable aquatic experience for all residents and visitors. We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lifeguard-Instructor to join our team and help us maintain the highest levels of safety and professionalism at our pools and aquatic facilities. This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual who is passionate about teaching and promoting water safety, and has a strong background in lifeguarding.   1. Ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals using the City of Burbank's aquatic facilities.
  2. Monitor pool areas and enforce all safety rules and regulations.
  3. Provide excellent customer service and engage with patrons in a friendly and professional manner.
  4. Teach and conduct lifeguarding and water safety classes to participants of all ages and skill levels.
  5. Demonstrate and instruct proper lifeguarding techniques and procedures to staff and trainees.
  6. Conduct regular safety checks and maintain a clean and organized pool area.
  7. Respond quickly and effectively to any emergencies or incidents that may occur.
  8. Communicate effectively with other lifeguards and staff to ensure a cohesive and efficient team.
  9. Attend regular training and meetings to stay current on lifeguarding procedures and protocols.
  10. Assist with the maintenance and upkeep of all aquatic facilities and equipment.
  11. Act as a role model for professionalism and promote a positive and inclusive environment.
  12. Collaborate with other departments and agencies as needed to ensure the highest level of safety and service.
  13. Maintain accurate records and reports related to lifeguarding activities.
  14. Continuously promote and educate patrons on water safety and proper pool etiquette.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned by the Aquatics Supervisor or other superiors.

Job Qualifications

  • Current Lifesaving Certification: A City Of Burbank Lifeguard-Instructor Must Have A Current Certification In Lifesaving Techniques, Such As Cpr, First Aid, And Water Rescue. This Ensures That The Individual Is Equipped With The Necessary Skills And Knowledge To Respond To Emergencies Effectively.

  • Lifeguarding Experience: Prior Experience As A Lifeguard Is A Crucial Qualification For A Lifeguard-Instructor At The City Of Burbank. This Experience Allows The Individual To Have A Thorough Understanding Of The Duties And Responsibilities Of A Lifeguard, As Well As The Ability To Train And Lead Others.

  • Instructor Certification: A City Of Burbank Lifeguard-Instructor Must Possess A Valid Instructor Certification From A Recognized Organization, Such As The American Red Cross Or The National Lifeguard Association. This Certifies That The Individual Has The Necessary Skills To Teach And Train Others In Lifesaving Techniques.

  • Excellent Communication Skills: Lifeguard-Instructors Must Have Excellent Communication Skills To Effectively Teach And Train Lifeguards. They Must Be Able To Clearly Explain Techniques And Procedures, As Well As Provide Feedback And Guidance To Their Students.

  • Physical Fitness: Being A Lifeguard Requires A High Level Of Physical Fitness, And This Is Especially Important For A Lifeguard-Instructor. They Must Be Able To Demonstrate Proper Techniques And Perform Physically Demanding Rescues And Drills. Maintaining A Healthy And Fit Lifestyle Is Crucial For This Position.
