  1. Greet and welcome patients and families to the unit, creating a positive and welcoming atmosphere.
  2. Provide administrative support by answering phone calls, scheduling appointments, and maintaining patient records.
  3. Coordinate patient care activities, such as scheduling tests and procedures, arranging transportation, and communicating with other healthcare team members.
  4. Ensure accurate and timely communication between patients, families, and healthcare providers.
  5. Maintain inventory of unit supplies and equipment, ensuring adequate levels are maintained for patient care needs.
  6. Collaborate with nursing and medical staff to ensure patient needs are met in a timely and efficient manner.
  7. Maintain a clean and organized work area, including patient rooms and common areas.
  8. Handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  9. Assist with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers.
  10. Respond to patient and family inquiries, providing information and resources as needed.
  11. Monitor and report any safety or infection control issues to appropriate personnel.
  12. Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to stay updated on policies, procedures, and best practices.
  13. Demonstrate a strong understanding of the hospital's mission, vision, and values in all interactions with patients, families, and colleagues.
  14. Collaborate with other Health Unit Coordinators to ensure consistency and efficiency in workflow and processes.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned by the nursing unit manager or supervisor.

Job Qualifications
  • High School Diploma Or Equivalent: A Minimum Of A High School Diploma Or Equivalent Is Required For A Health Unit Coordinator Position At Cincinnati Children's. This Demonstrates A Basic Level Of Education And Knowledge Necessary For The Role.

  • Previous Healthcare Experience: Candidates Should Have Prior Experience Working In A Healthcare Setting, Preferably In A Similar Role Such As A Unit Secretary Or Administrative Assistant. This Demonstrates A Familiarity With Medical Terminology And Procedures.

  • Strong Organizational And Multitasking Skills: Health Unit Coordinators Are Responsible For Managing Multiple Tasks And Responsibilities, Such As Answering Phone Calls, Scheduling Appointments, And Maintaining Patient Records. Therefore, Strong Organizational And Multitasking Skills Are Essential For Success In This Role.

  • Proficiency In Computer And Clerical Skills: Health Unit Coordinators Are Required To Use Various Computer Programs And Software To Perform Their Duties, Such As Electronic Medical Record Systems And Microsoft Office. Proficiency In These Skills Is Necessary For Efficient And Accurate Data Entry And Record Keeping.
