- Perform comprehensive eye exams on pediatric patients, including visual acuity, tonometry, and refraction.
- Assist ophthalmologists in diagnosing and treating eye conditions in children.
- Operate specialized equipment and instruments for eye exams and procedures.
- Administer eye drops and medications as directed by the ophthalmologist.
- Educate patients and their families on eye care and treatment plans.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including exam results and treatment plans.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care for patients.
- Ensure a safe and comfortable environment for patients during exams and procedures.
- Keep up-to-date with advancements in ophthalmic technology and techniques.

Completion Of An Accredited Ophthalmic Technician Program: Candidates Should Possess A Certificate Or Degree From An Accredited Program In Ophthalmic Technology, Demonstrating A Strong Foundation In The Technical And Clinical Aspects Of Ophthalmic Care.
Certified Ophthalmic Technician (Cot) Or Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (Coa) Credential: Choc Children's Hospital Requires All Ophthalmic Technicians To Hold A National Certification From The Joint Commission On Allied Health Personnel In Ophthalmology (Jcahpo).
Pediatric Ophthalmology Experience: Candidates Should Have A Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience In A Pediatric Ophthalmology Setting, With A Demonstrated Ability To Provide Care To Children And Adolescents.
Knowledge Of Advanced Ophthalmic Procedures: Choc Children's Hospital Requires Candidates To Have Knowledge And Experience In Advanced Ophthalmic Procedures Such As Refractions, Visual Fields, Oct, And Contact Lens Fittings.
Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: Ophthalmic Technicians At Choc Children's Hospital Must Have Excellent Communication Skills To Interact With Patients And Their Families, As Well As The Ability To Work Collaboratively With The Ophthalmology Team And Other Healthcare Professionals.
