
Animal Health Technician
Reporting to the Executive Director of Research, the Animal Health Technician follows established practices and procedures to provide routine animal care and assists research staff in performing technical work related to the care and use of research animals in the CHOC Research Institute animal care facility. The Animal Health Technician coordinates and performs routine vivarium daily activities including the collection and handling, housing and disposition, and care and treatment of approved laboratory animal models (mice and rats). Incumbent also performs technical para-veterinary health care procedures, completes standard veterinary nursing activities, and performs related ancillary duties as needed. The Animal Health Technician may also be involved with research support and training and oversight of research activities performed on approved laboratory animal models.
One year of experience working with animals
Previous experience (60+ hours) with laboratory animals (mice, rates) in an academic research facility
Biosafety Level 2 (BLS2) training, working knowledge of the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals
